WHAT WILL HATCH?
by Jennifer Ward
illustrated by Susie Ghahremani

What Will Hatch?Simple read and guess text paired with glorious illustrations by Susie Ghahremani, designed with peek & seek egg-shaped diecuts, invites young readers to guess what might hatch in the wild world of oviparous animals. A glossary of facts for each featured animal extends the learning process for budding, young naturalists.

Science for the very young is done best through joyous learning; education will certainly hatch from these pages.
Kirkus Reviews

An elegant interactive design and serene illustrations introduce readers to seven animals that hatch from eggs... Egg-shaped die cuts peek between pages, as the collaborators give visual and textual clues that let readers guess what nestles inside each egg. Ghahremani offers almost toylike images of the parents and their offspring; the texture of the wood she paints on bleeds through to create a homey back-to-nature vibe. — Publishers Weekly

THERE WAS AN OLD PIRATE WHO SWALLOWED A FISH
by Jennifer Ward
illustrated by Steve Gray

There Was an Old Pirate Who Swallowed a FishThere was an old pirate . . . who swallowed a fish, a bird, a map, some gold, and even a ship! Why did he swallow them? I don't know! Yo ho ho! Watch his belly grow! Jennifer Ward’s sea-worthy rendition of "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" is, once again, perfectly paired with Steve Gray’s zany, digital illustrations.

Ahoy there, me hearties! This is a fun new take on “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.” The colorful and zany cartoon art does a phenomenal job of capturing the absurdity and hilarity of this outrageous spin-off. A harum-scarum old pirate encounters misfortune at sea as he ingests one unpalatable item after another. From a whole fish to a chest of gold to a large ship, these unappetizing items lead to the untimely demise of this sea-worn picaroon. The text is engaging and melodic. Boys and girls alike will love to sing each comical new verse. Anticipation builds as each item introduced grows larger and larger and children eagerly await the dramatic ending. Children will linger on each page, not wanting to miss any details. Although many collections contain numerous versions of this tale, this one is modern and highly appealing. —School Library Journal

THERE WAS AN OLD MONKEY WHO SWALLOWED A FROG
by Jennifer Ward
illustrated by Steve Gray

There Was an Old Monkey Who Swallowed a FrogMigrating to a rainforest setting, the creators of "There Was a Coyote Who Swallowed a Flea" present another wacky take on this tune. After swallowing his first victim ("I don't know why he swallowed the frog. What a hog!"), the googly-eyed monkey downs three animated cocoa beans "to sweeten the frog," followed by a sequence of outlandish items and animals. Gray's digitally rendered illustrations alternately reveal the feasting monkey and the (remarkably) cheerful captives inside his stomach. Text and art deliver equal measures of over-the-top zaniness.

THERE WAS A COYOTE WHO SWALLOWED A FLEA
by Jennifer Ward
illustrated by Steve Gray

There Was A Coyote Who Swallowed a FleaAward-winning author Jennifer Ward presents "There was a Coyote Who Swallowed a Flea", a whimsical children's picture book offering an outrageous take on a common children's nursery rhyme. Following the exploits of a hungry coyote who sets out to gulp down everything in sight - and the perplexed appetizers socializing in his tummy, "There was a Coyote Who Swallowed a Flea" blends the vibrant, cartoony art of Steve Gray and singsong rhythm to create a rollicking, funny tale.

THE BUSY TREE
by Jennifer Ward
illustrated by Lisa Falkenstern

6buThe Busy TreeGentle rhyming couplets describe the different parts of an oak tree and the roles they play in feeding and sheltering the animals of the forest. From the roots and bark to the leaves and acorns, Ward pays tribute to each in simple-seeming phrases that sneakily introduce good vocabulary, such as boughs, hatchlings, scurry and prowl. “These are my branches, leafy and high, / a sidewalk for squirrels that soar through the sky.” Falkenstern’s oil paintings are a wonder. The animals are rendered with such realism and depth as to seem ready to come right off the pages. The broken eggshells give the impression of delicacy, while the dew on the leaves looks as if a touch will leave a finger wet. An amazing exploration of an oak-tree habitat for the youngest readers.

BECAUSE YOU ARE MY BABY
by Jennifer Ward

Because You Are My BabyI'll teach you everything I know, and guide you as you learn and grow, because you are my baby.

A mama coyote sings moon songs through the night just as a mama human cuddles her baby and lays her down to sleep. This precious story illustrates that the love a mother feels for her child is not unlike the affection animal mothers in the desert show their offspring. Beautifully written text is lovingly complemented by Sylvia Long's wonderful illustrations, making this an important book for parents and children to share together.

OVER IN THE GARDEN counting book!
by Jennifer Ward
illustrated by Ken Spengler

Over in the Garden
From School Library Journal
This new take on the familiar old counting rhyme features eye-catching garden critters. Bright, bold colors fill each gouache illustration in which giant insects with large, friendly cartoon-style eyes fill each spread. Hidden in each picture is a miniature image of the creature that will appear on the following spread and the numeral that indicates the number of creatures on the page. While the other versions feature illustrations that are attractive, engaging, or sweet, those in Garden command attention.

WAY OUT IN THE DESERT
by Jennifer Ward, et al
illustrated by Ken Spengler

Way Out in the DesertWay out in the desert having fun in the sun,
Lived a mother horned toad and her little toady one.
"Scurry!" said the mother. "I scurry!" said the one.
So they scurried all morning having fun in the sun.

From School Library Journal
A delightful take-off on "Over in the Meadow." Ward and Marsh replace the familiar pond animals with the horned toads, hummingbirds, javelinas, jackrabbits, and roadrunners of the Sonoran Desert. Spengler's joyous, humor-filled drawings at times border on cartoons. Even rattlers and Gila monsters look appealing. Absolutely delightful.

FOREST BRIGHT, FOREST NIGHT - available in hardcover, paperback, and board book
by Jennifer Ward
illustrated by Jamichael Henterly

Forest Bright, Forest Night
A nocturnal - diurnal flip-flop book
Using a rhythmic text and a turn-it-over format, this offering explores the concept that some forest animals are diurnal while others are nocturnal. During daylight hours, they can observe deer splashing through a stream while an owl dozes in a nearby tree, snakes staring at sleeping foxes, and blue jays squawking as skunks snooze in a hollow log. After turning the book over to the forest night, readers see the deer bedded down while the owl searches for food, the foxes on the prowl as the snakes rest in a tangled bunch, and the skunks scurrying about while a jay sleeps with its head tucked beneath its wing. The strong artwork will hold children's interest as they search for all of the hidden animals. A fun introduction to nature.
